Morning presenter: 

Lisa Leuck – Read to Lead, LLC Consultant (Elgin PL)
Title: Leading Where You Are: Dialogue, Design, and Disruption 

Everyone can be a leader. It doesn’t matter if you are the director or the shelver, or that you’re in a small library or a large one. But a good leader does need skills to be able to work effectively in whatever position they hold and to be part of and build productive teams to move the library forward. To be able to work together, solve problems, handle difficult situations, and innovate, library leaders need good communication skills, design thinking, and ways to handle both positive and negative disruption. This workshop will guide you through the skills you need and help you use your own real-life examples in the library to see ways that you can be a better leader where you are.

Panelists: 

Shamichael Hallman –Hallman is currently a visiting fellow (Loeb Fellow) at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, and a Teaching Fellow at the Center for Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania. From 2017 to 2022 he served as the Senior Library Manager of the historic Cossitt Library (Memphis Public Libraries). In this role he helped oversee the multi-million-dollar renovation of the library. 

Jamar Rahming – Rahming has worked in the library industry for twenty years in 8 different states including a fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Wilmington Institute Free Library, an award-winning institution – Recipient of the 2022 National Medal for Museum and Library Services, the highest honor in the industry. 

Brittany Peacock – Peacock is the Community Outreach and Marketing Supervisor for the Davenport Public Library. Peacock oversees a department of creative and passionate individuals who carry out the Library’s mission to Connect a diverse community to resources that inform, enrich, educate, and entertain daily.

Heather Hutto – Hutto serves as executive director of a tribal-rural library in northeastern Oklahoma serving 12,000 people. In this role, she tries to bridge digital inclusivity gaps and foster awareness about this, and intersecting issues.
