GODORT Workshop:
How Free Government Resources Can Help Your Library and Your Patrons Survive the Economic Downturn

Mark your calendars! Vogel Library in Waverly, Iowa is hosting this summer’s GODORT Workshop at Wartburg College, July 16, 2010. This event is highly affordable: $5 for GODORT members and LIS students, $10 for ILA members who are non-members of GODORT, and $15 for non-members of ILA.

· Keynote speaker: Joe Brisben, a well-known Iowa commentator on the economy for The Iowa Source and WSUI (an Iowa Public Radio station) and a financial advisor. Mr. Brisben will open by bringing us up to date on the U.S. economy in the summer of 2010.

· Hear more from your fellow librarians about how they have been able to use free government resources to help their patrons find the information they need in these tough economic times, without adding expensive new subscriptions to the collections budget.

Schedule:

9:30 – 10:00am Registration. Coffee, tea, juice and pastries available.

10:00 – 10:30am Welcome / housekeeping.

10:30 – 12:00noon Joe Brisben

12:00 – 1:15pm Lunch on your own. Information about places to eat in the area will be provided in the morning.

1:15pm – 4:00pm Presentations by librarians on free government resources

Librarian participants: share how your library has used free government resources to help your patrons or to stretch your collections budget: contact Julia Bauder (bauderj@grinnell.edu), Kari Weaver (kari.weaver@wartburg.edu) or Suzanne Vesely (sveselymum@gmail.com) to register or to propose covering a topic during the afternoon session. Registration will also be available at the door the day of the workshop.
